PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — It’s a golfing tradition unlike any other that brings out the best and brightest young golfers — the 68th Eastern Amateur Golf Championship at Elizabeth Manor Golf & Country Club in Portsmouth.

“I’m in awe of how good they all are,” said Tournament Director Karl Quinn, who has been involved with the tournament since 1994.

The Eastern Amateur has produced some of the best PGA Tour golfers on the current pro circuit. Currently, golfers are coming in from around the world to compete in this weekend’s tournament.

“We’re hosting nearly 100 of the nation’s top NCAA golfers,” said course general manager Jack Stone. “… The traditions of the game are just wonderful. … The golf course is ready, [and] we hope for great weather all week. When you get that trophy out and polish it and get ready to present it, I think of all the past champions that played here.”

Said Quinn: “We got players coming from all over the world — Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, China, Japan. I’ve met a whole host of people I otherwise would’ve never run into.”

The tournament opens play Wednesday morning. The first tee-time is at 8 a.m. For more information, click here.
