NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Two suspects were arrested in Newport News shortly after a bank robbery Friday afternoon in Isle of Wight County. 

One of the men, 33-year-old Russell Hudgins, was wanted by police in connection to a series of bank robberies in York County. 

Police say Hudgins robbed the Old Point National Bank in the 13000 block of Carrollton Blvd. while wearing a fake beard, a disguise used in previous robberies.

Relayed information tipped police that a vehicle related to the incident was spotted in Newport News. When police approached a gray Nissan Altima on Warwick Blvd. near 73rd Street, the passenger fled on foot, throwing an object in the process. Police say that Hudgins was throwing the disguise used in the robberies. 

Police immediately detained the driver of the car, 33-year-old Roscoe Freeman, of the 400 block of Chesnut Ave. in Newport News. 

Newport News Police later arrested Hudgins, of the 500 block of Powellsville Road in Newport News, with help from Newport News Fire Marshalls Office, York County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI.

Hudgins and Freeman have both been charged with conspiracy to commit a felony. Hudgins has also been charged with one count of wearing a mask in public and one count of possession of stolen property. 

Both are in the Western Tidewater Regional Jail with bond denied.
