OUTER BANKS, N.C. (WAVY) — With strong winds and rain expected to impact much of the region, the North Carolina Ferry System announced the temporary suspension of several of its routes Tuesday morning.

In addition to the suspension of several ferry routes, Cape Hatteras National Seashore is warning motorists of ocean overwash anticipated along NC 12, including at the Pea Island Visitor Center, the north end of Buxton and near the north end of Ocracoke Island.
NC12 is closed on Ocracoke Island between the NPS Pony Pens and the Ferry Terminal. NC12 is also closed on Pea Island between the Marc Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe.
As of 1:30 p.m., NC12 officials said the roadway is closed just north of Buxton to Old Lighthouse Road.
Although NCDOT is on scene mitigating what they can, there is still consistent foam overwash with occasional water overwash.
Also on Tuesday, two more houses collapsed into the ocean in Buxton.
The two homes, located at 46002 Ocean Drive and 46223 Tower Circle Road, fell around 10:45 and 11 a.m., according to the National Park Service.
