Former Portsmouth teacher faces new serious charges involving students

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Jarvis Green, a former math teacher at Churchland High School in Portsmouth, faces new charges related to sex crimes involving two students. The alleged incidents happened between December 2015 and March 2016.

At the time, Green was 24 and the students were 15 and 16.

Green, who was initially facing four charges, has been indicted with 15 additional charges, including sodomy by force, rape, object sexual penetration, and indecent liberties. These new charges suggest separate assaults involving the same two victims.

Green’s attorney, Michael Massie, stated that they have a solid defense, but said he has not yet reviewed the new accusations thoroughly.

The new charges against Jarvis Green stem from allegations that he sexually assaulted two students while he was a teacher at Churchland High School. The incidents reportedly took place both at the school and at Green’s home.

Court documents reveal that one victim alleged Green assaulted her at school and at his home, while the other victim claimed Green would pick her up from her home to engage in sexual activities at his residence. It is also alleged that Green offered money to one of the victims to cover up the meetings by claiming she was tutoring another student.

Green, who is currently out on bail, faces a potential life sentence if convicted on these charges.

His next court appearance is scheduled for December 2.

Green was originally put on administrative leave after his arrest. WAVY confirmed with the school division that he resigned in March.
