PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Judge Solomon Ashby certified four felony charges against Jarvis Green, 35, to the grand jury Wednesday morning. Green faces two counts of forcible sodomy and two counts of indecent acts with a minor by a custodian. He was a math teacher at Churchland High school in December 2015, and the alleged victims were 15 and 16, when the alleged crimes occurred.
Defense attorney Michael Massie said there’s more to the case than what has been revealed so far. “We have a solid defense. A lot of the evidence didn’t come out today, but it’s a solid defense,” he said outside the courthouse.
Jarvis wasn’t charged until January of this year. One of the alleged victims posted on social media late last year, accusing Green of sexually abusing her at school and at his home. Court documents stated that Green would use a cabinet in the rear of the classroom to conceal his sexual assault. Green is charged with having sex with that same student at his home.
The other alleged victim told authorities Green would pick her up from her home and they would have sex at his home – and Green offered to pay her money so that she could tell her parents she was getting paid to tutor another student.
He was originally put on administrative leave after the arrest. WAVY has confirmed with the school division that he resigned in March.
“It’s a sad case,” Massie said. “His life has been ruined. A jury will have to decide what are the true facts. We have a good defense.”
The office encourages anyone who has experienced or witnessed sexual abuse to come forward.
