NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A Newport News family is looking for justice after 28-year-old Imani Parrish was found dead inside her home with what police said were suspicious injuries.
Parrish was a mother, sister and daughter beloved by many. Her life was cut short when she was found dead inside of her residence. Her family left with many questions, the main one — who did it?
“Just a beautiful person inside and out,” Nichole Parrish said.
Nichole Parrish says she always had a tight bond with her daughter, Imani.
“We shared locations, talked everyday,” Nichole Parrish said. “She called me for anything and everything.”
But after April 30, there would be no more calls.
“I’m gonna miss my daughter,” Nichole Parrish said.
Imani Parrish was found dead inside her residence with what authorities called suspicious injuries.
Court documents shed light on just how she was found.
Newport News detectives said Parrish’s body was discovered shoved in a bedroom closet, wrapped in a comforter that was soaked in blood. There was also a trail of blood from the bathroom that led to the closet. 10 On Your Side asked Imani’s mom for her reaction to the shocking new details.
“It hurt,” she said.
The Medical Examiner’s office says the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head. At the time of Imani Parrish’s death, her body and clothes had pieces of glass on them. Her cell phone has yet to be found.
Imani Parrish’s loved ones say they are hopeful that police can find out who is responsible for the heinous crime. They believe it could’ve been someone close to her.
“She really cared about that person,” Nichole Parrish said. “She really cared, but justice, I hope will be served. Turn yourself in, please.”
Detectives are now requesting an additional search warrant for the apartment.
