Man arrested in Portsmouth, charged in connection to bank robbery in Smithfield

SMITHFIELD, Va. (WAVY) — A man has been charged in connection to a February robbery of Truist Bank in Smithfield.

On Feb. 19, Smithfield police responded to Truist Bank for a reported robbery. The suspect displayed a firearm and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.


On March 27, the Portsmouth Fugitive Apprehension Unit (FAU) took Tyrone Jefferson Perry Jr. into custody on an outstanding misdemeanor failure to appear warrant.

Following his arrest, the Smithfield Police Department obtained arrest warrants and a search warrant for Perry’s vehicle. Portsmouth Fugitive Apprehension unit then executed arrest warrants obtained by the Smithfield Police Department. Perry is currently being held without bond at Portsmouth City Jail. A search warrant was also executed on Perry’s vehicle as part of the ongoing investigation.
