PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — With lingering snow, ice and frigid temperatures on the Outer Banks and across the Hampton Roads region, many places have announced delays and closures for Thursday.
At the height of the winter weather, WAVY received nearly 300 entries in our closings system, notifying the public of schedule changes to city services, schools and businesses.
Snow began falling Tuesday evening in areas of northeastern North Carolina and Hampton Roads, including here in the Ocean View area of Norfolk around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday. (WAVY viewer video – Michael Perri)
The list of closings and delays grew into Tuesday night and has continued Wednesday. We’ve highlighted the major closings below, and new closings and delays announced for Friday have been highlighted. There are also changes to trash and recycling collections in some cities.

Friday closings and delays
Accomack County
- Accomack County Public Schools will be closed for students and 10-month staff Friday, Jan. 24. Exams for middle and high school students will be Monday, Jan. 27 and Tuesday, Jan. 28. There will not be a staff development day, and the teacher workday will be Wednesday, Jan. 29. The new semester will begin Thursday, Jan. 30. The two missed school days will be added to the calendar at the end of the school year unless the School Board approves taking it from other scheduled days off. All 12-month employees should report at 10 a.m.
Camden County, NC
- Camden County Schools will operate on a remote learning day for students and staff Friday, Jan. 24.
Chesapeake
- Chesapeake Public Schools will be closed Friday, Jan. 24. All students will participate in an asynchronous virtual learning day.
Chowan County, NC
- Edenton-Chowan Public Schools will be closed for students Friday, Jan. 24. There will be no remote instruction or packets for students. All school buildings and school division offices will remain closed.
Colleges and Universities
- All College of the Albemarle campuses will open at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24 for employees and students.
- Norfolk State University will open under a two hour delay Friday, Jan. 24. Staff should report at 10 a.m., and all students will participate in asynchronous virtual learning for the day. Scott/Dozier Dining Hall will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and again from 4:30 to 7 p.m. All other dining facilities will be open during their regular hours.
Currituck County, NC
- Currituck County Schools will be closed Friday, Jan. 24. However, Monday, Jan. 27, which had been designated as a teacher workday on the 2024-2025 school year calendar, will now be a full day of school at all schools.
Dare County, NC
- Friday, January 24, 2025, will be a remote learning day for all Dare County Schools, due to ongoing impacts from the winter storm. Students should follow the expectations provided by their teachers for remote instruction.
Elizabeth City, NC
- All Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools and offices will be closed Thursday, Jan. 23 and Friday, Jan. 24.
Franklin
- Franklin City Public Schools will operate on a regular schedule Friday, Jan. 24.
Gates County, NC
- Gates County Schools will remain on remote learning for Thursday, Jan. 23 and Friday, Jan. 24.
Gloucester County
- Gloucester County Public Schools will be on a two-hour delay Friday, Jan. 24.
Hampton
- Hampton City Schools will continue remote learning for all students Friday, Jan. 24. All after-school and evening activities are canceled. All 11- and 12-month employees are expected to report for work in person on a two-hour delay. Tuesday Jan. 28 and Wednesday, Jan. 29 will be full instructional days for all students.
Hertford County, NC
- Hertford County Public Schools will be closed for students Friday, Jan. 24. It will be an optional day for staff, with a three-hour delay.
Hyde County, NC
- Friday, Jan. 24 will be a remote learning day for staff and students at Hyde County Schools.
Isle of Wight County
- Isle of Wight County Schools and offices will operate on a two-hour delay Friday, Jan. 24. High schools and middle schools will communicate changes to exam schedules and the SOL testing schedule directly with families, and the last day of the first semester has been extended to Thursday, Jan. 30.
National Park Service
- Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Fort Raleigh National Historic Site and Wright Brothers National Memorial on the Outer Banks will open at normal times Friday, Jan. 24. Off-road vehicle ramps have reopened except for ramps 43 and 44 on Hatteras Island.
Newport News
- Newport News Public Schools students will have a remote learning day Friday, Jan. 24. A two-hour delay will be in effect for 11- and 12-month employees. Twelve-month day custodians, transportation and plant services staff will report at their regular time.
Norfolk
- Norfolk Public Schools will be closed Friday, Jan. 24.
- Norfolk Botanical Garden will have a two-hour delay and open at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24.
Northampton County, NC
- Friday, Jan. 24 will be a remote learning day at the following schools: Central Elementary School, Conway Middle School, Gaston STEM Leadership Academy and Northampton County Early College. Northampton County High School will be closed, and administration will send an updated testing schedule. All after-school activities and events scheduled for Friday, Jan. 24 has been canceled.
Northampton County, VA
- Friday, Jan. 24 will be a virtual learning/asynchronous learning day for Northampton County Public Schools students. All activities, practices and events for Friday, except for the VHSL regional Scholastic Bowl competition, are canceled. Saturday activities, practices and events will proceed.
Perquimans County, NC
- Perquimans County Schools will continue with remote learning Friday, Jan. 24.
Poquoson
- Poquoson City Public Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Friday, Jan. 24.
Suffolk
- Suffolk Public Schools buildings and offices will resume normal operations Friday, Jan. 24. There will be no school for students, and the scheduled instructional staff professional learning/clerical day will resume as normal.
Virginia Beach
- Virginia Beach City Public Schools will operate on an asynchronous learning day Friday, Jan. 24. Teachers will provide class assignments through usual platforms no later than 9:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday high school varsity athletic competitions will go on as scheduled. All other after-school activities Friday are canceled. Monday, Jan. 27 will be a staff day as previously scheduled and school will be closed to students. Tuesday, Jan. 28 will be the beginning of the second semester.
- No-cost meals will be available for all VBCPS students from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24 at the following locations: Bayside High, Bayside Middle, Birdneck Elementary, Brookwood Elementary, College Park Elementary, Cooke Elementary, Green Run High, Holland Elementary, Lynnhaven Middle, Lynnhaven Elementary, Pembroke Elementary, Rosemont Elementary and Windsor Oaks Elementary.
Williamsburg/James City County
- Williamsburg-James City County will operate on a two-hour delay on Friday, Jan. 24.
York County
- Friday, Jan. 24 will be a remote learning day for York County School Division students. Twelve-month staff should report to their locations on a two-hour delay. Essential personnel should report as directed by supervisors.
Thursday closings and delays
Accomack County
- Accomack County government offices will open at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23. The landfill, south transfer station and convenience centers will open at their normal operating times.
- Accomack County Public Schools will be closed Thursday, Jan. 23. Exams for middle and high school students will be on Friday, Jan. 24 and Monday, Jan. 27. There will be no staff development day, and the teacher workday will be Tuesday, Jan. 28. Accomack County Public Schools will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22. It is a snow day and not a virtual instruction day. Exams for middle and high schools will be Thursday and Friday. The teacher workday will be Monday, Jan. 27. There will be no staff development day, and the new semester will start Tuesday, Jan. 28 as scheduled.
Camden, NC
- Camden County Schools will be closed Thursday, Jan. 23. It includes all after-school activities and events. It said its goal is to reopen all schools Friday, Jan. 24.
- Camden County administrative offices will be closed until 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24. All Camden clerks offices and courts will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22.
- The Camden County convenience center will be open Thursday, Jan. 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The South Mills site will remain closed Thursday, Jan. 23.
Chesapeake
- Chesapeake Public Schools will be closed Thursday, Jan. 23. High school students will participate in an asynchronous virtual learning day. Chesapeake Public Schools will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22 for students and staff. High school students will have an asynchronous virtual learning day to allow for completion of makeup work or review assignments to close out the semester.
- All Chesapeake city offices and facilities will open at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23. All courts will be closed Thursday, and all trash collection will be delayed. All Chesapeake city offices and facilities will delay opening until 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22. Expect delays in trash collection. For Chesapeake employees, liberal leave is authorized, but contact your supervisor first.
- All courts (Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court) will be closed for the full day Wednesday.
- Damco Distribution Services, Inc. will have a delayed opening until 8 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22.
- Chesapeake Regional Medical Group will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Chowan County, NC
- Thursday, Jan. 23 will be a remote learning day for all Edenton-Chowan Schools staff. All school buildings and division offices will be closed. John A. Holmes students can check Google Classroom for their new courses and information from teachers Thursday, Jan. 23, which is the start of the second semester.
- All after-school activities for Edenton-Chowan Public Schools have been canceled for Tuesday, Jan. 21.
- Wednesday, Jan. 22 will be a remote learning day for grades PreK-8. John A. Holmes High School is already scheduled for a teacher workday, so there will be no remote instruction for students there. All school buildings and school division offices will be closed.
- Chowan County offices will operate on a two-hour delay Wednesday, Jan. 22. Offices will open at 10 a.m.
Colleges and Universities
- Bryant & Stratton College-Virginia Beach will open at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23.
- All College of the Albemarle campuses in northeastern North Carolina will be closed Thursday, Jan. 23. The Board of Trustees Building and Grounds meeting scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 23 has been rescheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29. The school closed at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, and will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22.
- Mid-Atlantic Christian University in Elizabeth City will operate on a three-hour delay Thursday, Jan. 23. Office hours and classes will begin at 11 a.m., and the dining hall will open at 10:30 a.m. for brunch and follow normal operating hours for dinner.
- Paul D. Camp Community College will delay opening until noon Thursday, Jan. 23. Paul D. Camp Community College closed at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21 and will open at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22.
- Tidewater Community College will open at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23. TCC will open at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22. All in-person classes will begin at 11 a.m., while online classes will resume during their scheduled time, and virtual support services will be available at 8:30 a.m.
- Old Dominion University will open at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23 at all locations, with classes resuming at 11 a.m. Old Dominion University will close the libraries, Webb Center and Student Recreation and Well-Being Center at 10 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21. Old Dominion University will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22. It includes ODU’s main campus, its Eastern Virginia Medical School campus and its higher education center locations in Virginia Beach, Portsmouth and Hampton. The Children’s Learning & Research Center will also open at noon. Operations, including clinical operations (patient appointments) for Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences EVMS Medical Group at ODU will be closed. Wednesday, Jan. 22.
- Norfolk State University will delay opening for three hours Thursday, Jan. 23. Staff should report at 11 a.m. All students will participate in asynchronous virtual learning for the day. Students must log into Blackboard for additional class updates. Scott/Dozier Dining Hall will open from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for brunch and 4:30 to 6 p.m. for dinner. All other dining facilities will be closed for the day. NSU will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22 with all students taking part in asynchronous virtual learning for the day. The Scott/Dozier Dining Hall will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for brunch and 4:30 to 6 p.m. for dinner for all students, faculty and staff. All other dining facilities will open on their regular schedule. All essential personnel should report to duty as normal, unless advised by supervisors.
- Elizabeth City State University — ECSU will operate under Condition 1 (reduced operations) of the Adverse Weather Policy for Thursday, January 23, 2025. Condition 1 is appropriate when an event has significant potential to or is already negatively impacting local area commuting, important campus services, or the efficient functioning of campus buildings and grounds. Staff meetings will continue to be held. However, it is important to add Zoom or Microsoft Teams options as needed.
- Chowan University will operate on a two-hour delay Thursday, Jan. 23. University offices will open at 10:30 a.m., and classes scheduled before 10:30 a.m. will move to an online format. Chowan University will be closed Wednesday. Jan. 22.
- Regent University will open two hours late Thursday, Jan. 23. Regent will open at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
- All Virginia Peninsula Community College campuses and education sites will reopen Thursday, Jan. 23 and will return to normal schedules and operations. VPCC will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22.
- William & Mary will open at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23. No classes or university events before 11 a.m.
- Virginia Wesleyan University will resume its normal operating schedule Thursday, Jan. 23.
- Christopher Newport University will reopen at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23. Classes that start before 9:30 a.m. are canceled. Common’s and Einstein’s will open at 9 a.m. Designated/essential employees should report to work as directed by their supervisors. All other employees should report at 9:30 a.m.
Currituck, NC
- All Currituck County Schools will be closed Thursday, Jan. 23. All activities, events and programs are also canceled.
- Currituck County government offices and facilities will be closed Thursday, Jan. 23. County offices are scheduled to reopen at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24.
- All Currituck County trash and recycling convenience centers, transfer station, Currituck Animal Shelter, Currituck Library branches, courts and the Currituck Health Department, are closed Thursday, Jan. 23.
- All Currituck County Schools will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22.
- All Currituck County Government administrative offices will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 22.

- Gates County Schools will operate on a remote learning day Wednesday, Jan. 22. New Beginnings Daycare will be closed.
Gloucester County
- Gloucester County Public Schools will be closed for students Thursday, Jan. 23. Teachers and staff are asked to report to work at 10 a.m. All after-school activities are canceled.
- The Gloucester County School Board budget work session scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 23 has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28 in the T.C. Walker Auditorium.
Hampton
- Hampton City Schools and offices will continue with remote learning/work Thursday, Jan. 23.
- Fort Monroe Authority and Casemate Museum will open at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23.
- Hampton City Schools and offices will shift to remote learning/work for Wednesday, Jan. 22. For students in grades K-12, assignments will be available in Google Classroom by 8 a.m. Dual enrollment classes will follow the platform specified by Virginia Peninsula Community College.
- All Hampton city facilities, including City Hall, all branches of the public library and museums, will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 22. The Hampton History Museum, the Charles H. Taylor Visual Arts Center and other facilities are also closed.
- *** Trash and recycling collections scheduled for Wednesday may be delayed due to road conditions. Residents are encouraged to leave containers at curbside, and collections will be made as soon as possible.
- City Council retreat still scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. at the Virginia Air & Space Science Center.
- The Night’s Welcome program available at First Baptist Church, 229 N. King St. for anyone who needs overnight shelter from the cold. The shelter is open nightly from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m., and guests must arrive by 9 p.m. to be accommodated.
Hampton Roads Transit
- HRT services will stop at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22 due to expected icy nighttime conditions. HRT services will start at 8 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23. Not all buses will start at typical starting points. The Tide light rail is experiencing a service interruption on Thursday westbound from the York Street Station to the EVMC Fort Norfolk Station. Bus shuttles will provide service between the impacted stations.
- TFC Recycling has postponed collections for Wednesday, Jan. 22 until Saturday, Jan. 25.
- Bulk waste and yard waste collections scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 22 will be collected Saturday, Jan. 25.
- All Hampton Roads Transit services to be delayed Wednesday, Jan. 22. All bus, ferry, paratransit and OnDemand ridesharing services, along with Base Express serving Naval Station Norfolk, expected to begin at 8 a.m.
- Elizabeth River Ferry scheduled to begin from High Street in Portsmouth at 8 a.m. with 30-minute service. Paratransit will be available for first pickups at 8 a.m.
- Bookings for OnDemand ridesharing in Newport News and Virginia Beach will be available starting at 8 a.m.
- Public meeting for Connecting Chesapeake: A Study of High-Capacity Transit scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Greenbrier Public Library has been postponed until the same time Jan. 29.
- Throughout the day, HRT will operate a regular schedule, though customers are advised to expect delays and impromptu detours.

Hertford County, NC
- Hertford County Public Schools will be closed Thursday, Jan. 23. There will be no after-school activities.
- Hertford County Public Schools will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22. There will be no after-school activities. All after-school activities for Tuesday, Jan. 21 were canceled.
- The Ahoskie Parks and Rec League gym is closed Tuesday, Jan. 21. There will be no youth basketball or open gym.
Hyde County, NC
- Hyde County Schools (including those on Ocracoke Island), will be closed for students Thursday, Jan. 23, with a virtual workday for 10-month staff. Eleven and 12-month employees are asked to check in with their supervisor. Students taking Beaufort County Community College classes are asked to check Blackboard and reach out to their instructors.
Isle of Wight County
- Isle of Wight County schools and offices will be closed Thursday, Jan. 23 for students and staff. This includes all after-school and evening activities. SOL testing for middle school students scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 23 will be rescheduled for Friday, Jan. 24.
- Isle of Wight County Schools and offices will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22 for all students and staff. It includes all after-school and evening activities. SOL testing for middle school students scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 22 will now take place Thursday, Jan. 23.
James City County
- James City County offices, the recreation center, convenience centers, county parks and the Williamsburg Regional Library will return to regular operating hours Thursday, Jan. 23.
- The REC Connect Before & After-School Program will be closed Thursday, Jan. 23.
Naval Station Norfolk
- Naval Station Norfolk will initiate a two-hour delay in reporting for Thursday, Jan. 23 for all non-mission essential personnel. Mission essential personnel should report to work as directed by unit leadership.
- The N-24 gym will open at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, and the following MWR facilities will also open at 10 a.m.: Bellissimo, ticket and travel office, impound lot and the marina. All other MWR facilities will open at their normal scheduled times.
- The Navy Exchange main store and package store will open at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23. The mini-marts will open at 8 a.m. The commissary hours will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23. CDC and Youth Center will open at the normal time, and the Galley will operate under normal hours.
- Normal weekday gates will be open Thursday, Jan. 23.
- Naval Station Norfolk will operate for mission essential personnel only for Wednesday, Jan. 22. Mission essential personnel should report to work as regularly scheduled.
- All MWR facilities will be closed, as will the Pass and ID (Visitor Control Center), Child Development Center, youth centers, Sewells Point Branch Health Clinic.
- V-55 mini-mart (on airside) will open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Base Express will begin running at 10 a.m.
- The commissary will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Newport News
- Newport News city offices will reopen at 10 a.m. Thursday for non-essential employees. Essential employees should report for work as scheduled. All city offices will open to the public at 10 a.m.
- Newport News circuit, civil, criminal and traffic court will open at 10 a.m. Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court will open two hours late.
- The Mariners’ Museum and Park will reopen Thursday, Jan. 23. The Lions Bridge entrance will remain closed for visitor and staff safety. Enter through the main entrance.
- The Virginia Living Museum will open two hours late Thursday, Jan. 23.
- Newport News city offices will open at 10 a.m. Wednesday for non-essential employees. Essential employees should report to work as scheduled. Liberal leave has been authorized.
Norfolk
- Norfolk Public Schools will be closed Thursday, Jan. 23.
- Alpha Beta Cappa Christian Academy will open on a 2-hour delay.
- Norfolk city facilities, including libraries, rec centers, The Slover, Norfolk Animal Care Center, Nauticus and MacArthur Memorial, will open at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23.
- Norfolk Circuit and General District Courts will be open normal hours Thursday, Jan. 23. Norfolk Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court will be closed.
- The Virginia Zoo and Norfolk Botanical Garden will be closed Thursday, Jan. 23.
- Norfolk Cares will operate on its normal schedule, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 23.
- On-street parking removals downtown will be lifted at 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23. The York Street Garage will resume normal operations at that time.
- Waste Management will take place Thursday, Jan. 23 on a delayed start. If bins were not accessible due to conditions, leave them at the curb.
- Bulk and yard waste scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 22 will be picked up Saturday, Jan. 25. Bulk and yard waste scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 23 and Friday, Jan. 24 will be rescheduled for next week.
- TFC Recycling will collect Wednesday, Jan. 22 routes on Saturday, Jan. 25. TFC anticipates a delayed start for collections Thursday, Jan. 23.
- 2nd annual Neighborhood Nerf’s-Up Battle has been postponed until Jan. 29.

- Norfolk Public Schools will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22.All City of Norfolk offices and facilities, including recreation centers, libraries and The Slover, will be closed, Wednesday, Jan. 22. This includes MacArthur Memorial, Virginia Zoo, Nauticus and Norfolk Botanical Garden as well as the Norfolk Courthouse.
- The Norfolk School Board meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 22 has been canceled.
- All city facilities will close at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21. To allow for plowing operations, on-street parking will be removed beginning at 6 p.m. Jan. 21, along Waterside Drive, Boush Street, Main Street and Granby Street The York Street Garage is open for residents and businesses downtown and will remain open until 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23.

- Thursday, Jan. 23 will be a virtual/asynchronous learning day for all Northampton County Public Schools students and 10-month staff. All afternoon and evening activities, practices and events are also canceled. There will be no after-school activities for Northampton County Public Schools Tuesday, Jan. 21.
- Wednesday, Jan. 22 will be a virtual/asynchronous learning day for all students and 10-month staff for Northampton County Public Schools.
North Carolina Ferry
- All but one ferry routes remain suspended on Thursday morning as crews work to reopen. The Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry route will be resuming full service at 2 p.m. Thursday.
Pasquotank County, NC
- All Pasquotank County offices, including the county courthouse, convenience sites, the county landfill and the Pasquotank County library, will be closed Thursday, Jan. 23.
- Pasquotank County offices, including the county courthouse, convenience sites, the county landfill and the Pasquotank County library will open at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Perquimans County, NC
- Perquimans County Schools will operate on a remote learning day Thursday, Jan. 23.
- Perquimans County offices will be closed Thursday, Jan. 23.
- The Perquimans County Library closed at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21.
- Perquimans County Schools will transition to remote learning Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Poquoson
- Poquoson City Public Schools will operate under a virtual day Thursday, Jan. 23.
- Poquoson City Public Schools will operate Wednesday, Jan. 22 as a virtual half-day, with staff working remotely. Buildings and offices are closed for students and staff.
Port of Virginia
- The Port of Virginia’s NIT and VIG truck gates will open at 8 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23. PRO-PASS reservations for Thursday and Friday, Jan. 23-24 will reopen at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22. PPCY, PCY and RSA truck gates will open at 7 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23.
- All Port of Virginia marine terminals and facilities truck gates will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22. All Port of Virginia gates are anticipated to reopen Thursday, Jan. 23.
Portsmouth
- Portsmouth Public Schools and its administrative offices will be closed Thursday, Jan. 23.
- The Portsmouth School Board meeting scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 23 has been canceled.
- Portsmouth city offices will operate on a two-hour delay Thursday, Jan. 23.
- All Portsmouth Public Schools after-school events and activities are cancelled for Jan. 21.
- Portsmouth Public Schools and its administrative offices will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Southampton County
- Southampton County Public Schools and offices will be closed Thursday, Jan. 23.
- Southampton County Public Schools will operate on a two-hour delay for Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Suffolk
- Suffolk Public Schools buildings will remain closed Thursday, Jan. 23. The school division will implement a virtual work day for staff, and the scheduled staff professional learning/clerical day will be virtual. Elementary/secondary staff will get more details and information from their building principal. Maintenance and custodial personnel should report to their buildings at 9 a.m.
- Suffolk city offices and facilities will resume normal operations Thursday, Jan. 23 at their regularly scheduled times, including the courts at the Mills E. Godwin Jr. Courts Building.
- Suffolk Transit will run on its normal schedule.
- Suffolk Parks and Recreation KidsZone Play Day programs at Booker T. Washington and Creekside locations will follow their scheduled hours.
- Recycling collection (provided by an outside vendor) is on a one-day delay. Refuse collection will continue as scheduled. If your trash was not collected on its scheduled day, leave your bin at the curb until it has been picked up.
- TFC Recycling will be on a one-day delay for the rest of this week.
- Suffolk Christian Academy will operate on a two-hour delay, Thursday, Jan. 23. There will be no morning care or bus transportation. After care services will be provided.
- All after-school activities have been canceled for Tuesday, Jan. 21.
- Suffolk Public Schools will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22. Suffolk Parks & Recreation before-school and after-school programming is canceled.
- City offices will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22. Alpha personnel, unless otherwise directed by their supervisor, shall report for duty as usual.
- Courts will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22.
- Suffolk’s four major parks (Lone Star Lakes, Lake Meade, Sleepy Hole, Bennett’s Creek) will be closed today, Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
- All Suffolk City Libraries (Morgan Memorial, North Suffolk) will be closed Wednesday, January 22, 2025, and all scheduled programming is canceled.
- Suffolk Transit will suspend service until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22.
- The Suffolk Executive Airport terminal will be closed today, Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
Surry County
- Surry County Public Schools will be closed Thursday, Jan. 23. All 11 and 12-month employees are to report at 10 a.m.
- The Surry County government center will be closed Thursday, Jan. 23 due to a major plumbing issue requiring assessment and repair. All other Surry County offices will operate on a three-hour delay.
U.S. District Court
- The Norfolk and Newport News U.S. District courthouses will open at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23.
Virginia Beach
- Virginia Beach City Public Schools will operate on an asynchronous learning day Thursday, Jan. 23. Teachers will provide class assignments through usual platforms no later than 10 a.m. Twelve-month employees should report to work at 10 a.m. All school buildings and administrative offices will be closed, and all after-school activities and events are canceled.
- No-cost meals will be available for all VBCPS students from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday Jan. 23 at the following schools: Bayside High, Bayside Middle, Birdneck Elementary, Brookwood Elementary, College Park Elementary, Cooke Elementary, Green Run High, Holland Elementary, Lynnhaven Middle, Lynnhaven Elementary, Pembroke Elementary, Rosemont Elementary and Windsor Oaks Elementary.
- Virginia Beach city offices and facilities will open at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23. Solid waste, recycling and bulky collections for Thursday, Jan. 23 are not affected. However, yard waste will not be collected Thursday, Jan. 23.
- Virginia Beach City Public Schools will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22. The makeup day will be Friday, Jan. 24.
- City offices and facilities are closed all day Wednesday, Jan. 22.
- Trash and recycling collection for Wednesday is rescheduled for Saturday, Jan. 25.
- The DaVita Virginia Beach Dialysis Center will operate on a three-hour delay on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
- Virginia Beach Public Schools – Elementary and middle after-school activities and all evening high school programs were canceled Tuesday.
- Urology of Virginia will open at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22. All appointments scheduled beforehand have been canceled.
Williamsburg/James City County
- Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools will be closed Thursday, Jan. 23.
York County
- York County School Division will implement an asynchronous learning day for Thursday, Jan. 23. Twelve-month staff should report to their work locations on a two-hour delay, and essential personnel should report as directed by supervisors.
- York County School Division schools and offices will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22. That includes after-school and evening activities.
Coliseum food distribution postponed
- The Virginia Peninsula Foodbank mobile distribution scheduled for Wednesday morning at the Hampton Coliseum will now take place on Wednesday, Jan. 29, starting at 10 a.m.
