PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – As expected, many local school districts closely watching the winter weather forecast this week have decided to close school buildings and offices.
According to the Super Doppler 10 Weather Team, a large part of the region will see 5-8″ of snow, with a few spots getting as much as 11″ by Thursday evening.

The following school districts have announced adjustments to this week’s schedule so far:
Accomack County Public Schools
- Virtual learning day Wednesday, Feb. 19. 12-month employees work remotely, if possible.
Atlantic Shores Christian School in Chesapeake
- Closed Wednesday, Feb. 19 and Thursday, Feb. 20.
Bridgeway Prep Christian School in Currituck Co.
- Closed Wednesday.
Bryant & Stratton College
- Hampton and Virginia Beach campuses closed Thursday. Classes are remote.
Cape Charles Christian School in Northampton Co., VA
- Closed Wednesday through Friday.
Cape Henry Collegiate School in Virginia Beach
- Closed Thursday and Friday.
Catholic High School in Virginia Beach
- Closed Wednesday and Thursday. Both asynchronous learning days.
Chesapeake Public Schools
- All Chesapeake Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2025. Students and school-based staff will not report to school. All after-school activities, including athletic practices.
Chowan University in Hertford County, NC
- Closed Wednesday.
Christ the King Catholic School in Norfolk
- Closed Thursday.
- Virtual learning day Wednesday.
Currituck County Public Schools
- Remote learning day Wednesday. Staff follow option 4.
Dare County Schools
- All Dare County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Friday, Feb. 21.
- Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2025, will be a Remote Learning Day for all Dare County Schools.
Edenton-Chowan Schools
- Closed Friday.
- Remote learning day for students and staff Wednesday, Feb. 19.
Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools
- Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools announced remote learning days for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Fortis College in Norfolk
- Campus will be remote Wednesday and Thursday. Check Canvas for instructions.
Gates County Public Schools
- Closed Friday, including New Beginnings Daycare.
- Remote learning day for students and staff Wednesday, Feb. 19 and Thursday, Feb. 20. New Beginnings Daycare will be closed.
Gateway Christian Academy in Virginia Beach
- Closed Wednesday and Thursday.
Ghent Montessori School in Norfolk
- Closed Wednesday and Thursday.
Gloucester County Public Schools
- Gloucester County Public Schools announced these adjustments to the schedule this week: Wednesday, Feb. 19-Snow Day (Schools Closed-No school for students or staff), Thursday, Feb. 20 and Friday, Feb. 21 – Remote Learning Days. To make up in-person instructional time, March 27 and May 2 have been converted to full student days.
Grace River Academy in Virginia Beach
- Closed Wednesday and Thursday.
Great Hope Baptist School in Chesapeake
- Closed Wednesday and Thursday.
Greenwood Christian Academy in Williamsburg
- Closed Wednesday and Thursday.
Hampton Public Schools
- Thursday, Feb. 20 will be a Remote Learning and Work Day for students and staff.
Hampton Roads Academy in Newport News
- Closed Wednesday and Thursday.
Hampton Roads International Montessori School in Newport News
- Closed Wednesday and Thursday.
Hampton University
- Hampton University will be closed Wednesday, Feb. 19 and Thursday, Feb. 20. Essential personnel only report.
Hope Academy in Virginia Beach
- Closed Thursday.
Isle of Wight Academy
- Closed Wednesday and Thursday.
Isle of Wight County Schools
- All Isle of Wight County Schools and Offices will be closed for all students and staff on Wednesday, Feb. 19 and Thursday, Feb. 20. All school activities and events are also canceled. Friday will be an asynchronous day for students and a virtual work day for employees. Teachers shared work with their students on Tuesday to be completed for the asynchronous day.
Mathews County Public Schools
- Closed Wednesday and Thursday.
Middlesex County Public Schools in Saluda
- Closed Wednesday and Thursday. Remote learning days.
Newport News Public Schools
- All Newport News Public Schools and offices will be closed on Wednesday, Feb. 19 and Thursday, Feb. 20, due to road conditions. Students are not requested to work remotely. All 12-month employees should work remotely. Leadership will monitor weather and road conditions on Thursday and notify employees and families of plans for Friday.
Norfolk Academy
- Closed Wednesday and Thursday.
Norfolk Collegiate
- Closed Wednesday and Thursday.
Norfolk Public Schools
- Norfolk Public Schools will close for in-person learning on Wednesday, Feb. 19 to Friday, Feb 21. NPS staff members are expected to work remotely in accordance with direction provided by school-level/departmental supervisors. All students will transition to remote learning.
Northampton (VA) County Schools
- Virtual learning day Wednesday. 11/12 month staff work from home/liberal leave.
Northampton (NC) County Schools
- Closed Thursday and Friday.
- Remote learning day on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
Ocean View Christian Academy & Childcare
- Ocean View Christian Academy & Childcare will be closed on Wednesday, Feb. 19 through Friday, Feb. 21.
Perquimans County Public Schools
- Perquimans County Public Schools in Hertford announced an optional workday for Wednesday, Feb. 19.
Portsmouth Catholic Regional School
- Closed Wednesday through Friday.
Portsmouth Christian Schools
- Portsmouth Christian Schools will be closed on Wednesday, Feb. 19 through Friday, Feb. 21.
Portsmouth Public Schools
- All Portsmouth Public Schools and administrative offices will continue to be closed Friday, Feb. 21. It will be another Remote Learning Day for students. In addition, all events and activities for Saturday, Feb. 22 have been cancelled.
- Due to hazardous winter conditions, all schools and administrative offices will continue to be closed on Feb. 20. It will be another Remote Learning Day for students. In addition, the School Board meeting scheduled for Thursday will be held virtually.
Primrose School at Cahoon Commons in Chesapeake
- Closed Wednesday and Thursday.
Primrose School of Virginia Beach South
- Closed through Friday.
Southampton County Public Schools
- Closed through Friday.
St. Gregory the Great School in Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach City Public Schools
- VBCPS students will have an asynchronous learning day on Friday, Feb. 21. Teachers will provide class assignments no later than 8 a.m. Due to the continued impacts of the winter storm, all school buildings and administrative offices will be closed to staff and the public on Feb. 21. All after-school activities are canceled for Feb. 21.
Virginia Peninsula Community College – All Campuses
- Virginia Peninsula Community College (VPCC) officials announced all campuses and satellite sites will be closed Friday, Feb.21, due to the continued winter weather conditions we are experiencing. The college will continue to conduct remote operations during the closure.

- Closed through Friday.
Williamsburg Christian Academy
