VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Storms have rolled into Hampton Roads and ended up bringing more than just showers.

Hail was spotted across Virginia Beach Friday afternoon during thunderstorms in the region. Hail is formed when raindrops are carried upwards into colder parts of the atmosphere by updrafts. As they continue to rise, they collect additional water which causes them to grow in size before eventually becoming heavy enough to fall back down to the ground.
