Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund: A way to pay it forward

(NEXSTAR) – In a special presentation in the video player above, we look at different ways to honor and support families that the Vietnam War forever changed. The conversation is part of our coverage of the 50th anniversary of the fall of Saigon and the end of the Vietnam War.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund – perhaps best known for the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C. – is among the most active organizations supporting veterans. In our video report, President Jim Knotts discusses what went in to building the wall and the work the organization is still doing today.

The cornerstones of our anniversary coverage are a pair of hour-long broadcast specials looking back at the war. The first – “Vietnam: A Lost Generation” – chronicles the return to Vietnam for several veterans still trying to process how the war shaped their youths. A second special on Operation Babylift, dives deep into the chaotic effort to evacuate Vietnamese orphans at the end of the conflict.

Diving even deeper into the ripples still being felt from the war, our coverage in the Vietnam section of this website includes archival footage, letters home and conversations with people who shaped the war and helped survivors heal deep scars.
