Within the past year, the Army Corps has taken out much of the oil and infrastructure of an old naval base. It was believed to be decommissioned in the 1980s, but deeper elements of the base were later exposed by erosion. Local officials thought more might be hiding deeper underground.

A day after officials at Virginia Wesleyan University announced the school will change its name effective next July 1, a petition opposing the change is circulating with nearly 2,000 signatures as of Thursday afternoon.

As technology continues to dominate our way of life, there's a rapid growth of student interest in the field of computer science amid a current challenge in Virginia to meet the need for an increased number of high school educators equipped to teach dual enrollment computer science courses.

Virginia Beach is continuing to brace for any impacts from Hurricane Erin.
