A new report shows gun violence is having a significant effect on some of Virginia’s communities and children. 

Virginia Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission found that while rates of gun violence are decreasing in Virginia and on par with the national average, gun-related injuries are a leading cause of death among youths and young adults in Virginia.

The line for families to pick up a free holiday meal in the Smithfield Foods parking lot started early in the morning.

"We certainly know that hunger and food insecurity are significant issues here in the Hampton Roads community, and we saw that this morning with our neighbors lining up as early as 7 this morning for our distribution that started at 10," said Jonathan Toms with Smithfield Foods.
