Long-term traffic shifts to begin for Norfolk Express Lane project

(WFXR)

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Motorists traveling along I-64 in Norfolk can expect new traffic patterns between Patrol Road and Tidewater Drive (exit 277).

The traffic shifts will allow crews to stripe the roadway, install barriers and perform other construction activities for the Hampton Roads Express Lanes (HREL) Norfolk Segment.

A spokesperson for VDOT say the new traffic pattern is estimated be in place until early 2025.

To prepare for the new traffic pattern, a series of temporary, overnight ramp closures are scheduled to take place along the I-64 corridor.

The estimated closure schedule is listed below:

Signs will be in place to direct motorist and closures will be announced as scheduled.

These schedules are weather dependent and subject to change.
