CAPE CHARLES, Va. (WAVY)– Multiple agencies responded to a single vehicle crash on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel early Wednesday morning.

According to officials, around 1:45 a.m., a tractor-trailer carrying frozen chicken was traveling southbound on Two Island at the Thimble Shoal Tunnel of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel when it crashed. As a result of the crash, the tractor-trailer became fully engulfed in fire.

Travel lanes in both directions were blocked for up to six hours while crews were working to remove frozen chicken and debris from the roadways. All accident debris has been cleared from the scene and the CBBT has resumed to normal operations with all lanes of traffic open to travelers.

Firefighters from Virginia Beach, Cape Charles and Cheriton assisted with the crash. Crews said there was no structural damage to the facility as a result of the incident.

No injuries have been reported.
