Liverpool are planning to permanently recognise the memory of Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva with a sculpture outside Anfield and a commemorative emblem on next season’s kits.

The entire footballing world and beyond was stunned by the tragic passing of Jota and Silva following a fatal car accident on July 3. Rivalries have been cast aside to unanimously hail a unique character cruelly robbed of the rest of his life at just 28 years old.

Fans flocked to Anfield to show their gratitude to Jota, piling the area surrounding Liverpool’s home stadium with posters, banners, flags, scarves and flowers. The Premier League champions are now in the process of creating a more permanent memorial out of these items.

“The thousands of physical tributes outside Anfield have been gradually removed over the course of the last week and carefully separated and safely stored,” Liverpool revealed in a club statement.

“Floral tributes will then be composted and used in flower beds across all club sites, including Anfield, the AXA Training Centre and AXA Melwood Training Centre. The remaining artefacts will be recycled by a specialist company and used to help create a permanent memorial sculpture that will become a future focal point of remembrance at Anfield.”

Liverpool had already retired Jota’s No. 20 shirt across the men’s, women’s and academy teams. Fans can still have ‘Diogo J. 20’ printed on their 2025–26 kits and all proceeds from these transactions will go to the club’s charitable foundation.

Regardless of the name on the back, every Liverpool kit in the coming season will have a tribute to Jota in the form of a ‘Forever 20’ emblem.

A choreographed fan mosaic will be unveiled at Liverpool’s first home game of the Premier League season against Bournemouth to the backdrop of a minute’s silence. The club are thought to be in discussion with the Football Association regarding a suitable commemoration for the Community Shield against Crystal Palace on Sunday, Aug. 10.
