HOUSTON, TX (WAVY) — It was a debut to remember for Baltimore Orioles top prospect Samuel Basallo. With his family in attendance, Basallo notched his first Major League hit in the top of the eighth inning of the Orioles-Astros game in Houston.

Basallo went 1-4 on the day, and was actually robbed at the wall by Astros outfielder, Jesús Sánchez in the 7th inning.

After coming back the next inning and racking up his first hit, Orioles Interim Manager Tony Mansolino was impressed by the 21-year-old’s mental.

“He handled it great… I’m watching every move he makes, how he handles things that aren’t positive in this game. This is going to be hard for him (but) the positive was the big hit there into right center,” — said Mansolino.

The Orioles shut the Astros out 12-0, and will travel to Boston an American League East series with the Red Sox starting Monday, August 18.
