NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — We’re one step closer to the 2025 college football season, as fall camp begins for teams around the country.
On Wednesday, Old Dominion took to the L.R. Hill Sports Complex practice field to open their chase of a Sun Belt conference championship.
“The air is different. As soon as you walk in the building day one, it’s time to lock in, get the pads on, and get to work,” said redshirt sophomore quarterback Colton Joseph.
The Monarchs come into this season following a 5-7 record from 2024. The main story of last season through the ups and downs was the quarterbacking play of Joseph. Cowboy Colt rushed for the second-most yards from a QB in the Sun Belt last season, and burst onto the scene, establishing himself as one of the players to watch.
Joseph himself says he’s put on 10 pounds and feels both stronger and faster heading into 2025.
“I put on a little bit of weight, I got a little bit faster — always got to stay fit in the weight room,” said Joseph, who’s going to have a room full of new wide receivers to work with. Seven of the nine wide receivers on the roster will be either transfers or freshmen.
“We’re going to have to have some guys step up. … A couple of guys flashed today and hopefully we’ll see a couple guys flash tomorrow,” said 5th year ODU head coach Ricky Rahne.
Old Dominion opens its 2025 season against Indiana. Kickoff will be at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 30 in Bloomington.
