ODU tennis teams learn matchups for NCAA tournament

NORFOLK, Va. (Courtesy of ODU Athletics) – Old Dominion men’s tennis will face off against Kentucky in the first round of the NCAA tournament, the NCAA announced Monday.

The Monarchs will travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Friday for their match at 2 p.m. against the Wildcats. Wake Forest hosts the region as the one seed. The Demon Deacons will compete against Gardner-Webb at 5 p.m.


ODU is back in action after a week off following the team earning its third straight Sun Belt Conference championship last Sunday. ODU is 17-8 on the season and on a seven-match winning streak.


Old Dominion women’s tennis will challenge Florida Atlantic in the first round of the NCAA tournament, the NCAA announced Monday.

The Monarchs travel to Durham, North Carolina on Friday with Duke hosting the region as an eight seed. ODU takes on the Owls at 1 p.m. The Blue Devils compete against Bryant at 4 p.m.

ODU is coming off of its fifth consecutive conference championship, where the team bested Marshall 4-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Monarchs are 19-4 overall, which included two wins over P4 opponents, a ranked win against Princeton, and two different seven-game win streaks.

ODU is one of 25 teams making its sixth-straight NCAA tournament appearance.
