NORFOLK (WAVY) – The Old Dominion men’s basketball team suffered its sixth consecutive loss on Tuesday night, falling on the road to Marshall 83-66 as another disappointing season nears its end.

ODU is 7-10 in the Sun Belt, but there have been some bright spots during the season, including a three-game winning streak and an upset road win over then first-place South Alabama.

But injuries and inexperience caught up with ODU. First year head coach Mike Jones has a very young team with the majority of the players being freshman and sophomores.

Sean Durugordon is a senior that has played four different colleges, so he’s bestowing some his experience to the younger guys.

“It’s tough for them because they don’t really know how these stretches go during the course of a season,” Durugordon said. “You can have a bad stretch there and a good stretch here. I’m just trying to keep them in good spirits.”

ODU (11-19, 7-10) closes out the regular season Friday at last place Coastal Carolina, a team the Monarchs defeated by 22 points in January.

Mired in a losing streak and with the conference tournament in Pensacola, Florida coming up, Friday’s game is of the must-win variety.

“Yeah it is, so we can get the best seed we can get,” head coach Mike Jones said. “Yes we need to win on Friday.”

Sophomore guard Robert Davis Jr. echoes his coach’s sentiment.

“Every game was a must win for us, but this is the one that will set us a part for a lot of different reasons,” Davis said. “I think we really need to win this game.”
