NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Since 2007, Norfolk State and Rutgers have met five times on the football field, with the Spartans going 0-5 in those games. It’s a matchup no one outside of the Spartans’ building expects NSU to win, but they’ll kick it off at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Piscataway, N.J., aiming to pull off the massive upset.
NSU coach Michael Vick did confirm this week Otto Kuhns will start the game. This means Israel ‘Izzy’ Carter goes to the bench after struggling in the first two games of the season. It was Kuhns that lead NSU to a dramatic come-from-behind win against rival Virginia State last weekend.
“Now is the opportunity for Israel to learn … and take every single rep seriously,” Vick said in his weekly media presser. “Whether it’s second team or scout team, every rep matters. That’s how I became the player I was in college. … There’s a lot of ways to improve in the game of football.”
According to ESPN, Norfolk State has a 1% chance to win the game Saturday in Piscataway. The Scarlet Knights are lead by Greg Schiano.
