AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Saturday is “Moving Day” at the 89th Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club. The term refers to golfers who made the 36-hole cut trying to get themselves into position on the leader board to win on Sunday.
Justin Rose of England (-7), the 2013 U.S. Open champion and 2016 Olympic Gold Medalist, enters the day with a one shot lead after carding a 71 on Friday. It is the tenth time that he has held the lead after a round at the Masters.
“It’s about just playing great golf,” Rose said. “And I think the leaderboard is stacking up very favorably for what looks like world-class players right up there. So you’re going to have to play great golf, and you’re going to have to go out there and want it and go for it and get after it. It’s as simple as that, really.”
A star-studded list of contenders sit just behind Rose on the leader board, including Bryson DeChambeau (-7), Rory McIlory (-6) and defending Champion Scottie Scheffler (-5). 16 players enter Saturday within five shots of the lead.
“I’m going to keep it simple,” DeChambeau said. “I’m excited. Very excited for the weekend. This is what golf is about. Got a lot of great names up there, and looking forward to an unbelievable test of golf.”
“We’ve got 36 holes to go on a very, very tough golf course,” McIlroy said. “Anything can happen. You know, and all I’m focused on is trying to hit a good tee shot in the fairway on the first hole tomorrow.”
“We’ve got a great golf course, conditions should be really good, challenging, and we’ve got some great guys on top of the leaderboard, so it should be a fun weekend,” Scheffler said.
