VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The No. 5-ranked Virginia Wesleyan’s softball team topped No. 17 Gettysburg 10-1 in Game 2 of the NCAA super regionals to reach the Division III championship round.

The Marlins (46-3-1, 21-1 ODAC) outscored Gettysburg 18-1 in sweeping the best-of-three series.

Olivia Knight led the Virginia Wesleyan offense, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI and scoring a run, while Morgan Tucker also went 2-for-3, knocking in two runs and scoring twice and Julia Piotrowski was 1-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored.

Hannah Hearl pitched four innings, allowing three hits and an earned run while striking out three. Emma Adams closed the game, striking out two in the fifth.

Piotrowski started the game strong for the Marlins with a triple to right-center, with Laci Campbell following with a single to drive in Piotrowski for the game’s first run. Tucker then drove in Campbell with a single up the middle and advancing on the throw. Tucker later came home on a hit from Mackenzie Myers.

After a pitching change for Gettysburg, the Marlins continued to roll, as a double from Olivia Knight drove in Myers to make the score 4-0. Gettysburg scored its lone run in the bottom of the first.

Virginia Wesleyan broke the game open in the fourth with a six-run inning. Another double from Knight drove in a run, Piotrowski had a sacrifice fly and Tucker drove in a run on an infield single. Myers walked to force in another run. Sammi Deitsch doubled to left to drive in two more runs to seal the win.
