Green Run hoops looks to stamp season with Class 5 title

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — As high school basketball state championships near, VCU is the place to be, as teams from around the Commonwealth look to hoist VHSL gold and stamp themselves as the best in their respective class.

In Class 5, Green Run is coming off arguably the biggest win the area saw all year, as they knocked off Woodside last week, halting the Wolverines’ bid for a three-peat of state championships.

Now, the Stallions, behind head coach Kenneth Harris and star senior Kass Jackson, are one win away from reaching the mountain top. All that stands in their way is 25-3 Albemarle.

“I told them I don’t want this to be over early,” Harris said. “I want to take this all the way. We’re playing in the last game of the season. Win or lose, they’re always going to be my guys and this will always be home for them.”

“Man, it’s legendary,” Jackson said. “It wouldn’t be forgotten for anybody. I want to set the standard for Green Run and make it to where a state championship has to happen here.”

Tipoff for the Class 5 state championship game is 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
