VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Bayside senior track star Andrew Salvodon dreamed about this moment for years — the moment of racing gold medalist Quincy Wilson and beating him. Last Friday, he did that — and more.

When Salvodon took down Wilson, he became the first high school runner to break the 61-second barrier in the 500-meter dash — ever. It also gave him the eighth-fastest time in the event in United States history.

“My whole life is me wanting to be the best at something,” Salvodon said. “Track is one of those things, and I want to race the best. So, to be able to race one of those people (in Quincy), I’m really glad I had the opportunity to race him as a person. It was an honor.”

Salvodon also said that any money he receives in the immediate future, he wants to pour back into the Bayside track and field program.

If you want to donate to the program, Salvodon is asking people to message him on Instagram by clicking here.
