Hampton Native Jerod Mayo fired by New England Patriots after 1 season as Head Coach

FOXBOROUGH, MA (WAVY) — Sunday brought some big news for the local Hampton Roads-NFL pipeline, as Hampton native Jerod Mayo was fired by the New England Patriots after just one season as the team’s Head Coach.

Mayo inherited the pats from Bill Belichick and went 4-13 in his lone season leading the team. New England did end the season on a high note, taking down the Buffalo Bills at home 23-16.

Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft put out a heartfelt statement Sunday about the firing,

“This was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made.. I have known Jerod for 17 years. I’m grateful for Jerod’s many contributions to the New England Patriots throughout his career and will always be rooting for his success,” said Kraft.
