PORTSMOUTH, Va (WAVY) — It’s tradition that after a trip to victory lane, Chesapeake native Brenden ‘Butterbean’ Queen takes a trip to Waffle House. After taking the checkered flag at Daytona, this trip felt a little sweeter than the rest.

“I could tell you the chocolate milk was ice cold and the waffles were good. We soaked in the moment. We also did the victory lunch at Chili’s. Man it’s just a tradition I had to keep going. If I didn’t say I was going to the Waffle House, I would get questions,” said Queen, who won Saturday’s ARCA race at Daytona, to stamp the biggest, most signature win of his career.

From racing at Langley Speedway when he was just a kid, or starting his Go Kart racing career when he was 6-years-old, it’s been a culmination of all his efforts to get to this point. He didn’t allow the moment to get too big for him, but he still soaked in how big of a deal winning at Daytona International Speedway was.

“It’s just an unbelievable feeling. We come from these short tracks, and now you’re wide open. Daytona, you just hold it to the floor and work the draft. Take a minute, look around, and realize where you’re at because that’s our Super Bowl of motorsports,” said Queen

It’s been quite the year for Queen, having a win in the Truck Series, winning another Hampton Heat back here at Langley over Dale Earnhardt Jr… it’s all catapulted him to quickly becoming a driver to watch out for in the sport.

“Don’t ever give up. You never know who’s watching or what opportunities are going to be ahead. I graduated Hickory High School 10 years ago this year… If I could go back and tell myself as a Senior at Hickory what would be ahead, I don’t think I would’ve believed it,” said Queen

Butterbean said that his goal by the end of the year is to continue to build off the momentum he’s now set with this Daytona win, and capture an ARCA Racing Championship. He currently sits atop the ARCA Racing standings, so I would say the 27-year-old from Chesapeake is off to one heck of a start.
