HAMPTON, Va (WAVY) — Saturday could be a day to remember for Late Model Racing. As the 17th Hampton Heat kicks off July 19, Chesapeake Native, Brenden ‘Butterbean’ Queen, looks to capture his third consecutive Heat victory. It would be his fourth Hampton Heat win, which would be an All-Time record for one of Virginia’s elite Late Model races.
“It’s definitely great to have a local favorite here in Brenden Queen… Out to get that threepeat, and the bigger thing is he’s going for four total which would be most all-time. Great to see him out here, his first in a year in a stock car so it’s cool to see what he’s doing,” said Langley General Manager Vaughan Crittenden.
But if anyone were to beat Butterbean and stop the ARCA points leader from winning another Hampton Heat, it would be Hampton Native Connor Hall, who went neck-and-neck with Butterbean during last year’s race. Queen edged it out for the checkered flag, and while Hall said he used to always think about stuff like that, now it’s all about racing his own race.
“I was thinking about it… I’ve run second in this thing four times. I was lucky to win it once, but the longer you go, those seconds start to hurt more and more everytime. I’ll play my cards a little different than I have the last two years and hopefully this year come out on top,” said Hall.
Langley Speedway will open parking lots at 9:30 am, grandstand gates open at 11 am, and green flag will descend into the Hampton night sky at 8:45 p.m.
