PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Gov. Glenn Youngkin spoke ahead of the impending snow.

“This snow storm is going to be serious,” Youngkin said.

The news conference began around 10:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18. Youngkin reminds residents that Virginia is still in a state of emergency.

“If you are not where you want to be by midnight tonight, don’t go,” Youngkin advised.

The National Guard will be deployed in southwest Virginia and moving into Hampton Roads as the storm persists.

Hampton Roads has already begun preparations for the predicted snow, some areas potentially reaching double digits. Outages, icy road conditions and business closures can be expected during the conditions.

Cities like Virginia Beach have already mentioned plans to prep the roads in anticipation.

Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares stated that during a state of emergency, residents are protected against price gouging. Drastic increase of costs, such as emergency supplies, is prohibited during state of emergencies. Items could include: batteries, water, gas, etc.

If someone suspects they are a victim of price gouging, Miyares advises they contact his office.
