YORK COUNTY, Va .(WAVY) — A member of the York County Board of Supervisors was arrested over the weekend and charged with boating under the influence of alcohol after police say he refused to stop while boating on the Poquoson River.
Green, the District 3 Supervisor for York County, was pulled over between 9-10 p.m. Saturday after Virginia Marine Police noticed a stern light on his boat wasn’t working. In a statement released Monday, Green said he was heading home from a waterfront restaurant when authorities turned on their lights.
This past Saturday night I went by boat to dinner with my wife and her friend at a local waterfront restaurant. On our way home I noticed a VMRC boat had turned their lights on. Initially, I did not know that they were approaching my boat as there were many boats on Chisman Creek. Once I realized they were approaching us, I signaled VMRC that I was going to my lighted dock(approximately 500 feet away) for their stop for both of our safety. It was never my intent to give the impression I was evading them. I have a great respect for the men and women of law enforcement and apologize for any misunderstanding. Alcohol was involved and I did make errors in judgment and want to acknowledge that I will accept any and all responsibility for my actions and will work every day to do better to serve the people of York County.
Police say his blood alcohol level was above .08 percent, which is also the limit for operating a motor vehicle in Virginia.
He was charged with boating under the influence, not have a stern light and refusal and failure to stop for Virginia Marine Police, according to Michelle Guilford with the Virginia Marine Resources Commission.
Green was taken to jail, but later released.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
