VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning on Oceana Boulevard in Virginia Beach.
Virginia Beach police say the crash happened just before 11 a.m. Deedrie Naomi Lewis, 70, was driving a 2003 Cadillac Seville north on Oceana — just before the observation pull off area.
A cement truck on a private access road off Oceana turned left on to the road. Police say Lewis hit the driver’s side of the truck.
According to police, an off-duty Virginia Beach officer heard the crash, ran to the scene and saw that Lewis was not breathing. The officer tried help Lewis until EMS arrived.
However police say Lewis died at the scene. The driver of the cement truck was issued a summons for failure to yield right of way.
The crash closed Oceana Boulevard in both directions from Bell Road to Louisa Avenue for nearly three hours.
