Woman charged with DWI, child abuse in Gloucester crash

GLOUCESTER, Va. (WAVY) — A woman is facing charges after authorities say she crashed a car with a 3-year-old child inside in Gloucester County late last week.

The Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office said 35-year-old Leah Alphin Lewis, of Zuni, was charged with abuse and neglect of children endangering health and driving while impaired.

Deputies were called to the scene of the crash at the intersection of Guinea and Tidemill roads just after 8:45 p.m. on March 1.

The child was taken to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, the sheriff’s office said.
