VIRGINIA (WAVY) — On Saturday, Governor Glenn Youngkin announced that flags will fly at half-staff to honor the memory of Department of Forestry part-time firefighter James C. Ward.
Ward lost his life while battling a three-acre wildfire on Saturday, March 30.
“It is with a heavy heart that we share such sad news on this Easter afternoon,” said State Forester Rob Farrell. “Please keep James’ loved ones and his firefighter family in your thoughts and prayers. And remember, everything you do to prevent wildfires helps protect our brave first responders.”
The flags over all state and local buildings along with flags on state grounds will be lowered at sunrise on Saturday, April 6 and remain at half-staff until sunset.
