HARRISONBURG, Va. (DC News Now) — Virginia’s first Buc-ee’s officially opened Monday morning.

You may have seen the gas station giant on roads trips across the U.S., but now Virginians can see the beaver right in their own state.

Located off I-81 in Rockingham County, the Texas-based chain is now open for gas fill-ups, jerky, fudge, Texas barbeque, kolaches and more. The store opened its doors at 6 a.m. on June 30, followed by its official grand opening, which was attended by Governor Glenn Youngkin, First Lady Suzanne S. Youngkin, Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears along with federal, state and local officials. Buc-ee’s founder and CEO Arch “Beaver” Aplin III was also in attendance.

“I was very pleased to have Governor Youngkin attend our grand opening in Rockingham County, Virginia,” said Aplin. “When he attended the ground breaking a little over a year ago, he told me he would be back for the ribbon cutting and in Governor Youngkin fashion, he did exactly what he said. We look forward to more Buc-ee’s in Virginia.”

The travel pit stop truly encompasses the slogan “Everything is bigger in Texas,” bringing to Virginians an assortment of food, drinks — oh and you can’t forget about the Buc-ee’s merchandise with its very own mascot.

While gas stations are usually known as a means of getting from one place to another, Buc-ee’s has set itself apart by becoming a destination in and of itself.

The Commonwealth is set to be grounds for two additional Buc-ee’s locations with one projected to open in New Kent and another in Stafford.
