LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — One year afer a deadly house explosion in Sterling, Loudoun County Fire and Rescue (LCFR) invited people to remember a volunteer firefighter who was killed as a result of the blast.
LCFR said there would be a candlelight vigil to honor 45-year-old Trevor Brown on Feb. 16 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Brown, a member of Sterling Volunteer Fire Company, was among the emergency workers who were on Silver Ridge Drive on Feb. 16, 2024 after they received word of a possible gas leak. When crews arrived, they found a 500-gallon underground propane tank, in fact, was leaking on the side of a home.
A short time later, a “catastrophic explosion,’ as firefighters described it, took place, killing Brown and injuring 13 other people, most of whom were first responders.
The location of the vigil to honor Brown is the future site of Firefighter Brown Memorial Park, located at 347 Silver Ridge Dr. in Sterling. The park is supposed to open in the summer.
The vigil will include a moment of silence, remarks, and “a communal lighting of candles as a symbol of remembrance and unity.”
Loudoun County Fire and Rescue shared the following information for people who would like to attend and pay tribute to Brown:
Parking
Public parking will be available at both Dominion High School and Seneca Ridge Middle School and is a short distance from the site. The path is easily accessible; however, walking is required to get from the parking lot to the site. Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes. Shuttle services will not be provided, so attendees should plan accordingly.
Traffic Impacts
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office will restrict traffic in the area of Seneca Ridge Drive and Augusta Drive to allow for safer pedestrian traffic and the staging of emergency apparatus. All attendees planning to drive to the event are encouraged to park at both Dominion High School and Seneca Ridge Middle School.
Weather
This event will be held rain or shine. As of now, the weather forecast shows rain throughout the day on Sunday. We encourage attendees to monitor the weather and dress appropriately for the conditions.
