The nonprofit Warrior Surf Foundation is transforming the lives of veterans by offering free surf therapy and wellness programs.
Founded in 2015, the Warrior Surf Foundation aims to support veterans dealing with PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other challenges through a 12-week program that is free for veterans and their families.
“The Warrior Surf Foundation really kind of helped me transition back into the real life of what joy and happiness and love and all the things that are supposed to be good about this life that we have,” said Jarbo, an army veteran who left the service in 2008.
Jarbo, who uses the ocean as a place to clear his head, found the foundation to be a crucial part of his transition to civilian life.
The foundation’s mission is to create a supportive environment where veterans can reconnect with themselves and others.
“When you have a veteran that has barely come out of their house or they’re just not comfortable coming out and you get them in the waves, you can legit see something in their eyes change,” Jarbo explained.
The program includes surfing, wellness, and yoga, providing a distraction-free environment where veterans can work through personal challenges.
“It’s literally just you, the nature around you, and the boards underneath your legs and the waves that you’re trying to catch,” Jarbo said, describing the therapeutic experience.
The Warrior Surf Foundation continues to build a network of veterans who can rely on each other, offering a path to joy and healing through the power of the ocean.
