VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A boy was injured following an early morning shooting in Virginia Beach.

According to police, officers were called to the 200 block of S. Budding Ave at 2:33 a.m. for the report of a shooting. When officers arrived on scene, they found a juvenile male suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was transported to the hospital for treatment. His condition is stable but critical, police said.

Photos from the scene show a heavy police presence.

A neighbor in the area said she was shocked when she found out a shooting happened next to her home.

“I was shocked and then I’m starting to get worried because, like I said, nothing like this ever- ever happens over here, so we are concerned,” neighbor Marilyn Wilson said. “We been living over here for four or five years and nothing like this ever, ever happened. This is a peaceful neighborhood, we love it.”

Wilson said she hopes the area gets better for the younger generation.

“It’s shocking for the most part because our young kids is really doing things, like we are really concerned for our youth,” Wilson said.

Another neighbor, who had been living in the area for two years, said the neighborhood is usually a quiet place.

The suspect is still at large.
