VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Three people are accused of being in a sex trafficking ring that could extend from Virginia Beach to Alabama.
Officers arrested the suspects at the Days Inn on Bonney Road on Tuesday.
Detectives with Special Investigations picked up 26-year-old Joshua Spardley, Summer Taylor and Kyiyonazia Tharasher.
Two days later, Spradley made his first court appearance. He told the judge he planned to hire an attorney and he says his mother is going to help with the cost.
Spradley has a lengthy rap sheet which includes charges of hit and run, DUI, assault on law enforcement and obstruction of justice.
According to court records, Taylor has a prior arrest in 2016 for prostitution.
Court documents say Taylor and Tharasher have been in Hampton Roads for the past three months after allegedly traveling with others from Montgomery, Alabama, to perform sex trafficking.
At this point, none of the suspects have asked for bond hearings. They are scheduled to have preliminary hearings on July 26.
