GLOUCESTER, Va. (WAVY) — A large fire at a Dominion Energy substation caused over 10,000 people to lose power Sunday afternoon.

According to the Abingdon Volunteer Fire Department, the fire happened at the Dominion Energy facility in the 7500 block of Guinea Road.

Robert Partlett with the Abingdon Volunteer Fire Department says the emergency call for the fire came in just before 4 p.m.

Dominion Energy says the fire was put out within an hour and it was contained inside the substation. There wasn’t any structure damage.

Just over 10,700 Dominion customers were without power when the fire first started, Dominion said. Around 8 p.m. the majority of the power was restored.

There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
