RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — There are new developments in our investigation of an identity theft case that spans nearly a decade.
CBS 17 first exposed Jenine Marie Ellis for stealing the medical credentials of Jenine Gregory two years ago.
It is a crime she already spent time in prison for.
Now, Ellis is on the run with four active warrants for felony identity theft.
Her North Carolina charges are out of Durham and Granville counties.
Gregory said she is angry that Ellis skipped court and remains free.
As we wait for authorities to find and arrest her another victim has come forward.
Jean Alessi-Chinetti, who lives in Boston, Mass., said Ellis stole all her personal information and used it to obtain jobs.
In July of 2024, Alessi-Chinetti said she received a duplicate driver’s license in the mail.
“I didn’t think anything of it,” Alessi-Chinetti said. “‘Oh, I didn’t request this.’ I didn’t think anything of it.”
But her curiosity got the best of her, so she called the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles.
“They said, ‘Oh, someone called us and said that they were traveling and needed an airline letter and the airline letter would prove who I was,'” said Alessi-Chinetti.
But it was not her. She soon found out who it was, but not before a few more unusual things came her way.
“I received a 10-95 C regarding health care insurance because I worked for the staffing company out of Boca Raton, Florida,” Alessi-Chinetti said.
That staffing company is called American Traveler. Its website states it has been trusted by healthcare travelers for over 25 years and is known for award-winning service.
Alessi-Chinetti called them, and this is what she said they told her.
“They said yes, you worked for us in Maryland. You’re a nurse at a hospital in Maryland. I said no,” said Alessi-Chinetti. “I said no. I’m not even a nurse. I don’t work as a nurse. I’ve never been to Maryland. So no that was not me.”
She said they promise to look into it and get her answers.
CBS 17 reached out to American Traveler multiple times and left messages and emails, but did not receive a response.
Not long after, Alessi-Chinetti received a notice from a collection agency from an apartment complex in Maryland. The notice claimed she owes the complex more than $10,000.
She got in touch with an apartment employee who then sent over a copy of her driver’s license and the employment offer letter used to secure the housing.
But there is a big problem — the license has her information, but the person on it is not her.
“I took the license picture and did a reverse Google search and found Jenine,” Alessi-Chinetti said.
CBS 17 asked it it was the same Jenine Gregory involved years ago, and Alessi-Chinetti said it was.
That employment offer from Triage Medical Staffing? That is fake too. And the recruiting officer? That is a also a fake name.
CBS 17 contacted Triage Medical Staffing, who confirmed she was never employed through them.
However, we did learn that a Jean M. Alessi was placed by a temporary staffing agency to work at Northwest Hospital in Maryland as sonographer.
We received a statement from the hospital’s Director of Public Relations Sharon Boston that said: “When Northwest Hospital became aware of the allegations against her [Ellis], it immediately suspended her from performing services pending investigation, and her employing agency was immediately notified. She did not return to Northwest Hospital or any other LifeBridge Health facility thereafter.”
Remember our original victim, Jenine Gregory?
Ellis is accused of using Gregory’s American Registry for Diagnostic Sonography, or ARDMS credentials. That is the not-for-profit that controls Gregory’s credentials.
It turned out Ellis is also accused of stealing Alessi-Chinetti’s ARDMS credentials.
CBS 17 asked Alessi-Chinetti why she thought she was targeted.
“I believe she went to the ARDMS website and looked up a name that was similar to hers,” said Alessi-Chinetti. “Someone that may have had credentials that she had found my name and targeted me that way.”
We have reached out to ARDMS, but have not heard back.
Ellis is confirmed to have worked at five North Carolina hospitals, and now, Northwest Hospital in Maryland.
For Alessi-Chinetti, she is worried about what is next.
“I don’t know the next surprise that’s going to happen,” she said. “Am I going to get another bill for something else?”
The last known address for Jenine Marie Ellis was in Maryland.
Alessi-Chinetti has contacted multiple police agencies to file reports against Ellis.
