VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Officials with Regent University are investigating after “#MeToo” was found painted onto a sign at the university.

A spokesperson for the university told 10 On Your Side the graffiti was reported on Monday. 

Campus police are working to investigate the graffiti. No further information was immediately provided.

The #MeToo movement was started years ago by activist Tarana Burke. It became part of a national conversation in 2017, with celebrities using the hashtag to share their stories and experiences of sexual abuse.

The “Silence Breakers” behind the movement were named Time’s 2017 Person of the Year.

The circumstances behind the graffiti at Regent were not immediately clear.
