PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Gov. Glenn Youngkin ordered the United States flag to be flown at half-staff Friday.

The Commonwealth of Virginia was ordered for flags to be flown at half-staff on all state and local buildings and grounds in memory and respect of former Virginia Delegate Theodore “Ted” Virgil Morrison, Jr.

According to an obituary for Morrison, he died on July 6, 2024 after representing Newport News in the General Assembly from 1968 to 1988. Starting in 1989, he was elected to be a member of the State Corporation Commission, where he served as its chairman on five separate occasions until his retirement in 2008.

The order goes from sunrise to sunset.
