HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A man is facing charges for allegedly punching a Hampton police officer and trying to disarm another during an arrest.

Hampton police say officers were called to a 7-Eleven on Hardy Cash Drive around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday for an unauthorized use of an automobile complaint.

Police say the suspect, 19-year-old Randy Todd Roberts Jr., began pushing the officers when they tried to detain him. Roberts allegedly punched one of the officers in the face and tried to grab another’s gun.

Police say Roberts bit a third officer who arrived on scene. None of the officers were seriously injured.

Roberts was charged with unauthorized use of an automobile, obstruction of justice, three counts of assault on a law enforcement officer and attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer.
