VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A man is facing felony charges for allegedly stabbing a woman and setting an apartment on fire overnight in Virginia Beach.
Virginia Beach police spokeswoman Tonya Pierce tells WAVY.com 47-year-old Eric Keith Bowen is facing charges of aggravated malicious wounding and burning, destroying of a dwelling.
Police received a call just before 1:20 a.m. Friday from 26th Street about a person screaming they had been stabbed. Officers got to the scene and found a woman suffering from stab wounds.
Pierce says that as officers were treating her, it was determined that Bowen had barricaded himself inside the apartment. Officers noticed the apartment was on fire, and firefighters were called to the scene.
At some point, Bowen jumped out of the second story window and was quickly arrested.

Dramatic video captured by a neighbor shows Bowen diving head-first out of the window. Officers were seen quickly converging on the 47-year-old.
Pierce says the woman’s injuries are considered critical.
WAVY photojournalist LaVoy Harrell captured images of the scene Friday morning showing the charred damage at the apartment.
Sheldon Pugh says he heard the woman’s cries for help while he was parked on the street behind the house.
“It sounded like it was coming between the alley over here and it was dark,” Pugh tells 10 On Your Side.
He followed the cries and says he found the woman sitting in a puddle of blood. “She said I’ve been stabbed and he stabbed me while I was sleeping,” Pugh explained.
One neighbor, Barrett Lipkin, tells 10 On Your Side, “I was online teaching an ESL course to a student in China and I heard an extremely intense female scream that was like the most intense scream I’d have heard in my life.”
Rebecca Ahlschlager, who lives just behind the home where it all happened, says she saw the victim trying to scoot down the porch stairs clinching her chest and tried to help her before police arrived.
