Police ID suspect arrested in Portsmouth barricade situation

UPDATE (July 13, 2018): Court records show the charges against Jajuan Wells were nolle prossed or withdrawn


PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A suspect wanted in connection to a recent double shooting gave himself up peacefully Wednesday night after an hours-long standoff with police. 


The situation started just before 5 p.m. in the 500 block of Lake Shores Drive in the Port Norfolk area of the city. Police say the man was wanted in Monday night’s double shooting on Virginia Avenue.

He was identified Thursday as 22-year-old Jajuan Wells, of Portsmouth.

Police blocked off the area while negotiators worked the situation for hours. Around 10 p.m., more negotiators were brought in to assist. 

Around 11:20 p.m., police announced Wells had been taken into custody peacefully. No charges have been announced at this time.
