NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A Hampton man is facing charges for allegedly punching and choking his girlfriend in Newport News.
Police were dispatched to the 4800 block of Huntington Avenue on Dec. 30 for a reported domestic assault. A 39-year-old Newport News woman told officers she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, 23-year-old Godwin Thurton, of Hampton.
She reportedly told officers the two of them started to argue about their relationship when Thurton started to punch her head, face and body.
Police said she also claimed Thurton grabbed her throat and began choking her.
Thurton was charged with strangulation and assault on family member.
