ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) — An on-duty Pasquotank County deputy was injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning in Elizabeth City.
Elizabeth City police said in a news release 47-year-old Travis Jackson was sitting inside a Ford F-150 parked in a driveway near an Enterprise rental car location when the crash happened shortly after 8:30 a.m.
“Just think it could have been somebody’s child waiting for the school bus,” said Pasquotank County Chief Deputy Daniel Fogg. “We don’t know how far he traveled in that capacity to get to our deputy on Weeksville Road. Anybody could have been in danger.”

The Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Jackson was on-duty Friday morning.
Police said 34-year-old Christopher George Sweeney was driving a 2007 Toyota Corolla south on Weeksville Road when he ran off the road and continued to travel on a sidewalk until he collided with Jackson’s Ford.

The collision caused both vehicles to roll over and hit a utility pole, police said.
“When I arrived on scene I saw our deputy’s patrol vehicle up on its side,” Fogg added.
Jackson, Sweeney and a woman who was in Sweeney’s car were all taken to Sentara Albemarle Hospital. Their condition is unknown at this time.
The sheriff’s office said Jackson is in surgery.
We are praying for him and the community has given us a lot of support,” Fogg said.
Sweeney has been cited with driving while license revoked, driving while under the influence, failure to reduce speed, driving right of the roadway and careless and reckless driving.
“It’s tragic,” Fogg added.
