NORFOLK, Va (WAVY) — Norfolk Council will vote Tuesday to sell the old Fire Station 12 to Razzo Properties so they can open up a firefighting themed Italian restaurant.
The restaurant will be the second for Razzo, which currently owns an Italian restaurant in East Ocean View.
Razzo will pay $5,000 for the 13,446 square foot property, which includes the 1924 4,065 square foot building, according to an ordinance set to go before city council. That is $266,900 less than the city’s most recent assessed value of the property for the land at 1650 W Little Creek Rd.
It should be noted the city ordinance includes information that Razzo will invest $475,000 to renovate the building into a restaurant. They will also be required to complete sidewalk upgrades.
The new restaurant will have approximately 88 seats with an additional 20 seats in the outside dining area, according to the city. The agreement also stipulates that Razzo “will use all reasonable
efforts to preserve and enhance the historical integrity of the space and provide a showcase for Norfolk Fire memorabilia.”
Razzo Properties was not immediately available for comment.
A city spokeswomen said the building is still being used by the Norfolk Fire Department, but a new Fire Station 12 is expected to open across the street in the next month or so.
