BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — One person died after authorities say they suffered multiple gunshot wounds in Bertie County over the weekend.
The Bertie County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release a 911 call was received Sunday, Jan. 6, that shots had been fired at a community building.
Responding deputies found one person at the scene who had been shot multiple times. That person was flown to Greenville, North Carolina, where they later died, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office said the shooting happened at a birthday party that was being held at the community building. The incident is being investigated as a homicide.
