DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — The Duke University Board of Trustees approved a 5.9% increase in the total cost of attendance for undergraduate students during the 2025-26 academic year, the university said Tuesday.
In 2024-25, undergraduate tuition was $66,325 and the total cost of attendance, including fees, room, and boarding, was $88,886. For 2025-26, undergraduate tuition will be $70,265 and the total cost of attendance will be $92,042, according to the university.
The university said the trustees approved the increase after analysis and discussion with Duke leadership. Students receiving financial aid will have their support adjusted for cost increases.
According to the university, more than half of Duke undergraduate students receive some form of financial assistance, including need-based aid, athletic scholarships and endowed competitive scholarships.
Through the Carolinas Financial Aid Initiative, according to the university, Duke undergraduate students who are residents of North Carolina or South Carolina and come from families with a total income of $150,000 or less receive a full tuition grant. Duke undergraduate students from the Carolinas whose family has a total income of $60,000 or less will also receive financial assistance for housing, meals, and other expenses without loans.
The university said tuition increases for graduate and professional school programs will range from no increase to 4.7%.
